During our mission trip we will be serving at various missions throughout the Minneapolis area, possibly including homeless shelters, domestic violence centers, food shelves, and affordable housing projects, among others. The goal of this trip will be, first and foremost, to serve those in need and bring the love of Jesus into their lives. So often we approach a short-term missions trip thinking primarily of our own experience but any mission trip, regardless of its length, should be about serving and caring for the people who need it. A secondary, but important, goal is to get a firsthand glimpse of poverty and to be able to use what we see and experience to affect change in our own community. This trip is designed to equip us with the tools we need to help alleviate poverty here in the Fox Valley. There are always many worthwhile missions organizations to support but I felt that this trip could really help our youth and possibly our entire church to become servants of Christ here at home.
Please be in prayer for this trip, both for those who need to be served in Minneapolis and for those of us who will be traveling to do the service.
